DESCRIPTION
Medium Gauge Line investment in Industeel Charleroi steel making factory construct a new shop for flatten thick hard steel plates and their sandblasting. We designed the foundations for the building, machine foundations, ground slab, underground cellars, chimney foundation. Challenge was the deep excavation as underground water level was close to the surface. This was overcome by implementing pile wall, executed by Franki Foundations. Machinery was supplied from SMS Demag, Germany. Bore and Franki type piles were used. Heavy loads form the Rolling Press were passed to the ground by piles diameter 150cm. Ground slab will be used for storage of steel plates and therefore heavy loaded areas were soil improved by concrete piles. We designed a second floor over exiting electrical house. In practice this was an entirely independent structure just over the old masonry building. For its foundations were used abandoned piles from former facade and few new piles.
